The Parent Council has been established to give our parents a voice in the education of young people at The English College. The Council will also support the College in building our community through organising events and activities involving parents, staff and students.

We are aiming to have representation in every year group and would welcome new members.  If you are interested in joining the Parent Council or volunteering your time to assist them with any future events, then please send an email to

We are pleased to introduce below a few new members of our Parent Council:

Hi folks, I am an Australian and have lived with my wife Laure (a French midwife) and our two boys (Timothy Year 13 and Christopher Year 12), in Dubai for the past 11 years. The boys have both been at EC since Year 7.

I first came to Dubai as the Regional Director for the UN, but am now working as an independent International Business Development Consultant. Laure and I met in Iraqi Kurdistan working in the humanitarian sector and have lived all over the Region since 1993, with major stints in Iraq, Yemen, Eritrea and now UAE.

My reason for volunteering to serve on the first EC Parents Council is to try and forge a friendly working relationship/bond between teaching staff and parents to enhance the quality of the educational atmosphere at EC for our children. However, with only very few parents showing any interest in the Parents Council thus far, I urge you all to consider just what you could contribute to this endeavour – no matter how big or small the contribution – your participation will be of immense value.

Cheers, Phil

Catherine Aggarwal

Hello, my name is Catherine Aggarwal and I am a new EC mum as my daughter Nina just started in year 12.

I am French but have been a ‘professional expat’ for the last 30 years, with the last 13 in Dubai.

I decided to join the Parent Council because I felt that we, parents, could really be a key resource and support for our children, their teachers and the whole EC team. I have never volunteered for such a role before but this time, I believed that we could make a difference. I know I need to learn more about the history of our school and what makes it so special, and I look forward to help build its future with all of you.

My name is Simone Nowell and this is my fourth year as an EC parent. I have two children, Isa in Year 10 and Layla in Year 7.

I am the primary librarian at a school in Dubai and was an active member of the PTA while my children were at this primary school. I am looking forward to being part of the Parent Council and hope that we will be able to add value to what is already a fabulous school.

Thank you,

Simone Nowell

I moved to Dubai from the UK 10 years ago with my husband and our daughter, who is now in year 8 at The English College.  I have an MA in Librarianship from the University of Sheffield and worked for 10 years at several British universities, both as a subject librarian and an academic administrator.  I am the Parent Representative on the School Board.

Dr.Sijo has a son, Sam, in Year 8. She has been a consultant in the training industry for 13 years now and is the Academic Director and Principal Consultant of Zabeel International Institute of Management & Technology.
