What subjects do you teach?

Primary school Art

What different age groups have you taught?

FS1 to Year 6

How long have you been teaching?

I am actually new to teaching and have been here in The English College since 2016. I have always had a passion for Art and decided to embark on this new journey when my family and I moved to Dubai

Why did you become a teacher?

As an artist and teacher, you have the unique ability to inspire children. Art helps children understand other subjects much more clearly – from maths to science, to language and geography. Art nurtures inventiveness, engages children and aids in the development of self-esteem, self-discipline, cooperation and self-motivation. It is a pleasure being part of a child’s journey watching him or ger grow from strength to strength.

Who influenced you when you were a student? And what is your favourite part about teaching

When I think about my school days I always remember my art teacher in primary. He inspires me still to this day and I hope that I have the same effect on the children I have the pleasure teaching.

What is your best advice for a teacher starting his/her career?

One thing that I have learnt is that you are never too old to start your teaching career.

Which university did you go to?

I studied in Scotland at the Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen.

Besides teaching what have you done for work?

Before I got into teaching, I trained in Health Sciences in university and then went into pharmaceuticals. I always thought that I would be in the medical profession but since starting this new venture and allowing myself to pursue something I am passionate about has totally changed my mindset.

What are your hobbies? What else do you do for fun?

I really enjoy running, most weekends I am up at the crack of dawn running in the mountains over the trails in Hatta. I love family time and I also love to draw and paint.

What is your biggest achievement?

One of my biggest achievements was when I was in the UK and I ran my first mountain marathon over Ben Nevis and Glencoe. It was fantastic! I plan to do the Marathon Des Sables in the future.
