Identification

The process of identification starts through liaison with our own Manor Primary and other Primary feeder schools. If a child is identified by their previous school as having a learning need, then our Special Educational Needs Coordinator will ensure that their provision is continued at The English College, Dubai.

Upon entrance, students are screened and tested using CAT4, Progress in English, Maths and Science (up to Year 9), the PASS survey and LUCID Exact, along with reading and spelling age assessments. This data is used to identify differing levels of needs for each student.

Identification of ‘Learning Needs’ will come generally be highlighted through this battery of assessments and the reports that come from Parents and the student’s previous school(s).

Medical needs are catered for through our on site nurse, Mrs Anne Marpole, who ensures that all DHA requirements are met and that teachers are equipped to provide inclusive lessons for all students regardless of their medical need.

Provision

Depending upon the needs of the individual an appropriate level of support will be apportioned.

Support can come in the form of ‘in class support’ or ‘withdrawl’ support.

Students can receive four periods of support a week where trained staff work towards assisting each student achieve their individual goals and complete the outcomes stated in their Pupil Passport.

The Head of Enhanced Studies is responsible for the cultivation of all SEN documentation and ensuring that all staff members are given the most up to date information regarding how to get the best out of each individual.
