Welcome to the Extra-Curricular page at The English College!

Ms Yates and Mr Clarke are our Extra-Curricular Activities Co-Ordinators.

The College has long been praised for its wide-ranging and comprehensive activities programme.  All full-time members of staff provide a weekly club and therefore we strive to offer an inclusive timetable of activities that has something to offer for all students; sporting, academic, nerdy and everything in-between!

Students can choose from one of the many clubs on offer, alternatively we also provide opportunities for students to get involved in the wider community through charity work, work experience, trips and The Duke of Edinburgh  International Award.

Benefits of Extra-Curricular Clubs

Here at The English College we actively encourage students to sign up to at least one weekly club (but there is no limit!) so that they can participate fully in College life and increase the opportunities on offer to them throughout their time here at EC.

We firmly believe that the Extra-Curricular Programme enables students to enhance their school years in a variety of ways including:

  • making new friendships
  • improving self-confidence
  • learning new skills
  • developing interpersonal skills
  • taking on leadership roles
  • improving resilience and organization

A large number of our clubs provide students with opportunities to participate in competitions and tournaments and this increases their confidence.

But most importantly, we our students to be happy and to do something they enjoy!

Attendance

It is important to note that, for health and safety reasons, only students participating in a supervised activity should be on-site after 3:30pm.

At all clubs and activities, registers are taken to monitor attendance and also for health and safety reasons. Therefore, students should choose carefully those clubs they think will be of interest or benefit to them and make sure they attend.

Some clubs are limited on numbers for health and safety or organisational reasons and those students who are accepted on to the club will normally be on a first come, first served basis. If numbers are deemed unviable, or if student’s sign up to a club and do not then attend it weekly, it is possible that the club will be cancelled and an alternative offered instead.

Please note that for PE league clubs eg netball, rugby, football students must undergo trials to be successfully chosen for the teams and weekly commitment is essential.

Our aim is to get at least 85% of the student body attending an extra-curricular club this academic year.

Registering for a Club

At the start of each term students are asked to sign up for clubs and activities. This proves takes place in school, usually during tutor time. If they are registering for any club that has limited spaces or requires a team to be picked, the teacher in charge has final say.

The timetable alters each term with some staff offering a selection of different clubs throughout the year the success of all clubs relies on student attendance!

Staying Informed

We encourage students to take full responsibility for their organisation and participation in Extra-Curricular clubs so the majority of information that is disseminated for individual clubs is done so through notices in form time or meetings held during the school day with the teacher in charge.

However, generic information is posted on our d6 communicator app, eg cancellations due to parent meetings, so please join the app to keep updated.

We hope your child enjoys the Extra-Curricular Programme here at The English College and fully participates in the many activities on offer!
