On Tuesday 10th October our school leaders and our school year reps were invited to a Bedouin conservation area

On Tuesday 10th October our school leaders and a select number of our school year reps were invited to a Bedouin conservation area in the Empty Quarter. This was a truly unique and unforgettable experience. We left school at 6:30 and our bus drove us to the collection point, where we were greeted by Bedouins and tour guides. They dressed us in Arabic head scarves which helped protect us from both the burning sun and the sand in the atmosphere. We were then transported by open air 1950s style safari jeeps to a private Bedouin camp. When we arrived, we watched a falconry show, We then watched and participated in The Ardah– a typical Arabic dance by two men facing each other either holding a sword or a cane. After such dancing, we were ready to have our Arabic breakfast which consisted of cheese, onions, mushroom and fava bean stew and flat Arabic bread. Some of us were then  invited to take a camel caravan back to the main entrance where the jeep cars were waiting for us to take us all on the wild life safari. The jeep to us deep into the empty quarter and we saw Giselles, white onyx, and sand fish, as well as an abundance of interesting vegetation. This was a fabulous experience to be given and truly a kodak moment that will stay ingrained amongst all of us. The place was truly magical but more importantly it really helped capture the culture and the heritage of the bedouin way of life. Please visit our facebook page for viewing related photographs

Our young author and nominee for Literacy Champion at this year’s LitFest had her book launch at the Intercontinental Festival City

We are very proud that our young author and nominee for Literacy Champion at this year’s LitFest had her book launch at the Intercontinental Festival City this weekend. Maddi from Year 10, also known as NovelGurl on social media, has written her debut novel “Elements of Straefor” and it is published by The Dreamwork Collective.

A large audience, including classmates who helped with selling and signing, was there to hear Maddi talk and to celebrate this fantastic achievement. Maddi will be going in to local primary schools to read to students and promote literacy. Keep an eye out for this young lady in the future – and if you see her around school, she will gladly sign your copy of the book!
